MIAMI (AP) — Memphis and BYU are getting ready to meet for the first time as they prepare for the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl.

Memphis (9-3) won a share of the American Athletic Conference championship and BYU (8-4) is making its 10th straight bowl game.

Although both teams come into the game with similar records and a winning streak to their credit, the success of their programs in recent years has been much different. Memphis has just one player on the roster, wide receiver Keiwone Malone, that has played in a bowl game.

BYU, which agreed to participate in the Miami Beach Bowl in April, has won four in a row after a midseason skid that saw the Cougars drop four straight.

Memphis will be looking for its first 10-win season since 1938.
