MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami International Airport is getting a little more help just in time for the summer travel season.

Airport officials say they are getting additional staffing from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on May 31st - about 60 more screening officers. This is meant to help keep lines and wait times down.

They are also opening another checkpoint in Concourse D during the airport's highest peak hours.

Checkpoint 4 gives access to Concourse D and E mainly for passengers flying on American Airlines. The checkpoint will be open from 8 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

"I'm glad to see that our visit to Washington in May and our discussions since then with the TSA are paying big dividends for our passengers," said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González."Wait times over the Memorial Day weekend were nothing near the long lines we saw during Spring Break, and we look forward to keeping wait times down as additional TSA officers continue being deployed to MIA this summer.
