Meteorologists Watching Low That May Become Next Tropical System
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An area of disturbed weather in the Atlantic Ocean has meteorologists keeping track of what may be the next named tropical system.
The shower and thunderstorm activity is associated with an elongated area of low pressure about 350 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.
A tropical depression could from as the system moves west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the Lesser Antilles and over the eastern Caribbean Sea.
The system could be negatively impacted by the mountainous terrain of Hispaniola and eastern Cuba, however meteorologists believe the system could develop more early next week as it moves toward the Bahamas.
Gusty winds and heavy rainfall are possible across portions of the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands Thursday night and Friday, and over Hispaniola late Friday and Saturday.

An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the low pressure area Thursday afternoon, if necessary.
If the system were to develop, the name would be Cristobal.
