ORANGE CITY (CBSMiami/AP) — A 62-year old man whose body was found in a popular central Florida state park was most likely killed by an alligator.
That was the finding of the Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office in the death of James Okkerse of Debary.
Okkerse's body was found Monday floating in Blue Springs State Park.
A 12-foot alligator was spotted twice on Sunday when the park was forced to close temporarily after the sightings.
On Monday, authorities shot the alligator after Okkerse's body was found. Friends said he swam in the park every day.
The full autopsy report will take six to eight weeks to complete. This was the state's first fatal alligator attack since 2007.
The Volusia County park is popular for kayaking and manatee watching.
