MDPD: Woman operated unlicensed post-cosmetic surgery recovery home
MIAMI - They're called the Royal Palms luxury rentals.
Full-time residences, and for one tenant, a full-time post-op medical facility.
"I would never expect something like that, so I mean you come here, it's a small apartment — it's two by two and seeing that someone had eight people in there, that's crazy," said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous.
According to Miami-Dade Police, they received a tip about a woman possibly being held against her will at unit at Royal Palms in Fontainebleau. When officers arrived to check out the apartment, they found eight women, all recovering from cosmetic surgeries in an unlicensed space operating as a recovery center. Police say inside there was biohazardous waste, including body fluid and blood.
"They don't care if they put somebody that's never been put a bandaid on before to take care of these patients, all they care is that the patient goes, pays their money and then they can make a profit," said Alvaro Zabaleta with Miami-Dade Police.
Police arrested 38-year-old Maidelys Sanchez who they say was running the operation with three other people working as caretakers.
We knocked on Sanchez's door in hopes of receiving a statement, but no one answered.
