Galvez was briefly hospitalized after officers used a stun gun on him while trying to take him into police custody.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, died at a local hospital following the incident Monday afternoon.

A man, who did not want to be identified and claimed to be a friend of the tenant, said he and his friend talked before police arrived.

"I said, 'Are you alright?" the man said.  "(The tenant) said they (are about) to come get me. They (are going to) take me away."

The police who arrived at the complex confronted Galvez after he barricaded himself inside the apartment.

Eventually, the Homestead police tactical team entered the location and they saw a man with stab wounds lying on the floor, according to a Miami-Dade Police spokesperson.
