Marlins' Stanton Sidelined By Knee Soreness

VIERA (CBSMiami/AP) — The Miami Marlins aren't taking any chances with their star slugger.
Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton missed Monday's exhibition game against Washington because of a sore right knee and visited team physician Dr. Lee Kaplan.
"Obviously, he's a big part of our team, big part of our lineup," Marlins President of Baseball Operations Mike Hill said. "We want to make sure everything's good. Right now, it's just soreness and rest. We'll see how he reports tomorrow and how he feels."
Stanton had arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips in his right knee in 2012.
Hill said the Marlins first became aware of Stanton's knee soreness when he came in for his workout on Sunday while the team was at Lakeland. Hill said there are no plans for Stanton to have an MRI, though that likely would change if the soreness persists.
"We're being cautious, obviously," Hill said. "We want it to resolve. So right now, it's just rest."
Stanton agreed to a record $325 million, 13-year contract with Miami in 2014.
