Marlins Done With Spring Training, Can't Wait For Season Opener

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Marlins fans are counting down to opening night, but they don't have to wait for the first pitch on Tuesday to get a taste of what's to expect this season.
Fans can expect an anxious team that can't wait to get out of the clubhouse and onto the field – especially after watching half the league suit up and take the diamond on Sunday and Monday.
The Fish are also ready to redeem themselves after a measly 71-win season last year. And they're of course looking to make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2003.
Earlier in the day, Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton took to the field and worked with new batting coach Barry Bonds. Stanton hopes to make a big bounce back after breaking a bone in his hand a season ago.
The all-star right fielder will be going toe-to-toe with Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera. The former Marlin was in the cage taking some swings in the revamped Marlins Park.
But more than anything else, players can't wait to start the real games that count… at night.
"We needed that sleep, man. We've been getting up at 6 o'clock in the morning every day. So to be able to sleep in a little bit, everyone is taking advantage of it," joked Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon.
"That is one of the great parts of it too. You know, get to sleep in a little bit, play some night games, you know, have that Miami crowd with us. It'll be good," Stanton said.
The Marlins and Tigers kickoff the two-game set on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. at Marlins Park.
