Marlins, Commissioners To Distribute Food To Needy Seniors
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Monday will be a day of giving back to the community for a pair of South Florida commissioners and the Miami Marlins.
Miami-Dade Commissioner Bruno Barreiro and Miami Commissioner Frank Carollo, joined by representatives from Feeding South Florida and the Miami Marlins, plan to hand out 800 boxes of food to seniors in need in Little Havana.
Each box weighs 15 lbs. and contains 21 items of canned meats, vegetables, fruits, and other health items to supplement seniors' diets, according to statement from Carollo's office.
Barreiro, Carollo and the Marlins will start the day handing out boxes to residents who reside at Robert King High on NW 7th Street. The group will then continue the food distribution at Martin Fine Villas, also on NW 7th Street, and end the day at Haley Sofge Towers on NW 13th Avenue.
