MARGATE (CBSMiami) - A Margate man who risked his life, and his cellphone, to save a child from drowning has received a thank you gift for his heroic actions.

On Saturday, November 12th, a 2-year-old boy wandered out of his family's Pinebrook Pointe apartment after someone forget to lock the front door.

Once they realized he was missing, the police were called and a frantic search was launched.

Henry Tate III, who lives in the development, joined the search. The boy was spotted floating face down in a lake behind the apartment complex.

Tate, 23, charged into the water and pulled the boy out. He then performed CPR, which he just got certified in last week, until Margate police and fire rescue arrived and took over.

The boy was taken to Northwest Medical Center where he's expected to recover. What didn't recover was Tate's iPhone which he had in his pocket when he went into the water to save the boy.

When AT&T heard what happened, they decided to do something about that. On Tuesday they presented Tate with a new iPhone 7 with a Life Proof case.

The City of Margate plans to honor Tate at a ceremony in the future.
