MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) - The City of Margate is honoring the late actress, and hometown gal, Kaye Stevens with a statue.
The city will unveil a 5-foot-10 bronze statue of Stevens on Tuesday night at the park that bears her name.
Stevens is credited with helping to put Margate on the map. The community's developer, Jack Marquesee, hired her to do the first commercials and other public relations for Margate in the mid-'50s.
Stevens, who lived in Margate for over 45 years, often used to post signs next to her nameplate that read "Hello, Margate" when she was on game shows.
Mayor Tommy Ruzzano says he liked the idea of honoring Stevens with a statue instead of a plaque or a bust. In 2004, the actress moved to Summerfield, north of Orlando, to work in a Christian ministry. She died in 2011 at age 79.
The statue costs $32,000 and sits atop a $10,800 pedestal.
