Margate Caregiver Accused Of Exploiting Elderly Woman
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Margate caregiver was taken into custody after she reportedly stole thousands of dollars in property from her elderly charge.
Over the course of a year, July 2008 through July 2009, Maria Jacome allegedly stole $15,515.00 in jewelry and other property from 73-year old Judith Kaplan, accord to her arrest report.
Jacome, 57, reportedly pawned more than $13,000 in jewelry at Powerline Pawnbrokers at 196 Powerline Road in Pompano Beach. Among the other items she's accused of stealing from Kaplan's Tamarac home are a laptop, printer, a small flat screen television set and two single beds.
Investigators said in May, 2009, Jacome also used Kaplan's credit card number to pay for nearly $500 in repairs to her car.
Jacome has been charged with exploitation of the elderly, fraudulent use of personal identification and grand theft.
Bond set at $32,500.
