MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade Police are appealing for the public's help in finding a gunman after they say two young people were found shot and killed at a building in downtown Miami Lakes.

A neighbor heard a gunshot at approximately 8:15 a.m. at 6829 Main Street, went to check it out and found a man bleeding outside an apartment.

Responding police units found the man dead outside his apartment on the 2nd floor of the complex. Detectives say he was in his mid 20s.

Police then searched the apartment, where they found a dead woman in her mid 30s. The building has apartments on the 2nd floor and businesses on the 1st floor. Police were not sure what the man's relationship was to the woman. But one neighbor believes she knew them.

"I know there was a young couple who lived there and he used to ride his bike every day," neighbor Cristina Diaz said.

"It's very sad. I didn't know them but I am sure their families must be devastated. They were very young and as a parent it hurts," Diaz told CBS4'S Peter D'Oench.

It appears both died from gunshot wounds, according to police.

"It's really shocking. This is a nice neighborhood with restaurants and families and kids. It is shocking," said neighbor Smile Jiminian.

Police are actively looking for surveillance tape and canvassing the area.

Detective Chris Thomas said, "Perhaps you were driving by and you saw something. If you did see something please come forward and give as much information as you can. Please give us anything that can help us with the facts of this case. We continue to tell people if you see something, say something. If you see something unusual, call us. You can remain anonymous."

Images from Chopper4 showed several police units, rescue units and an area covered with a yellow tarp at the scene.

Police have no motive or suspects at this time. They are scouring the area for surveillance tape. It's not known if they have recovered a weapon.

No additional details were immediately known.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477 or (305) 471-TIPS.

There is a reward of up to $3,000.
