MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A man wanted for the murder of his estranged wife over the weekend has been taken into custody.
Joe Louis Padgett, 54, has been charged with one count each of first degree murder and attempted murder for a shooting on Sunday in the area of SW 268th Street and SW 128th Avenue.
Family members say Katrina Padgett was in her backyard with her mother when she was confronted by Padgett.
During the argument, Padgett reportedly pulled gun and began shooting at both women. Katrina Padgett was hit several times but her mother, Sophia Cheeks, was not.
Padgett's family believes they know what happened to the married couple of 18 years.
A relative said Katrina was tired of "carrying" Padgett "on her back."
"That's not a husband. That's a coward. That's not a man, a coward. He deserves to be dead or behind bars," said Sasha Johnson.
Katrina Padgett's family said she was a family-centric business owner. Her three businesses included party rentals, a cleaning company and a food truck. But above all, she was a problem solver.
"A star. A star taken too soon. She was pretty much the rock," said Kiva Joseph.
