MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The search is on for a killer after a man was found shot to death in a car in Miami Lakes.

Miami-Dade police say they got a call around 7:30 p.m. Thursday about a hit and run crash at the intersection of NW 89th Avenue and 146th Street.

When officers arrived, they found a car had crashed into a tree. Inside the car, they found the body of a man in the backseat. That man was identified as 37-year-old Lester Santana Hernandez.

Police are at a loss to explain as yet why the driver ran away.

"What makes this peculiar is this individual ran from the car. Is he running in fear? Is he running because he did something? We don't know yet, because we don't know what situation we have at hand," said Miami-Dade Police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta.

Zabaleta said the fatal shooting could have been a case of road rage, a targeted drive-by, or there may even have been an exchange of gunfire.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
