PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – A Pembroke Pines community is on edge after a man was shot in a carjacking Monday afternoon.
The shooting happened at around 4:45 p.m. at the Hampton Isles Condominium Complex at 10625 SW 6th Street.
"I heard a bang!" one neighbor told CBS4's Oralia Ortega.
"It was kind of nerve-wracking," neighbor Isabella Cely said.
A resident, who did not want to be identified, said she saw a man approach the victim, who was inside his vehicle.
"All I saw was a gun. He was like about 5'9", a white male," she said. "And I run in the house and told my daughter to call the police."
Cely added, "I heard a gunshot and then I heard women's cries and screams and then we saw a group of people huddled around this area."
Neighbors told police the shooter took off in the victim's vehicle – a 2012 dark gray, four-door Chevy Malibu.
"I ran over there to the guy cause the guy sped off in his car," a witness said. "And I'm just telling him to stay awake or whatever. Don't move until the police come, until the ambulance come."
One of the witnesses said they expect the victim, who was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, to be OK.
Authorities have not released a description of the shooter and have yet to identify the victim.
