MIAMI (CBSMiami) – North Miami Beach Police have made an arrest in a deadly ATM robbery captured on surveillance.

The robbery happened Wednesday night around 8:45 p.m., at the Bank of America at 1199 N.E. 163rd Street.

Police said Dillon Steve, 26, was withdrawing cash at the ATM when a man in a hoodie approached him with a gun.

It all happened within seconds and Steve was shot in the chest.

He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

Bank customers told CBS4'S Peter D'Oench they were horrified by this crime.

"I thought this was awful and it was so sad for this to happen to someone," said Rosell Fereira. "It makes me think I should only come here in the daytime."

Customer Marielle Dorvil said, "People have to be very careful at the ATM. This is very dangerous. I feel very bad and this is very sad. It is very scary for me, my son and my husband. You have to be very careful ad look around and watch and maybe don't come here at night."

Customer Jamie Johnson said, "That's terrible that something like this should happen. It makes me worry about going to the ATM. I'm sure that it wasn't over much but you just have to be so careful and look around."

North Miami Beach Police are alarmed and pleaded for the public's help in this case.

"Any time anyone loses their life, especially over something monetary, something so senseless. In this case, you can't even begin to express the amount of sympathy you feel for someone's family, someone who lost a life like that," said North Miami Beach Police Capt. Juan Pinillos.

Investigators said there were 30 detectives working to hunt down this cold-blooded killer.

CBS4 was at the bank when one of those detectives showed up to look for clues along with a crime scene technician who scoured the area with a metal detector and crime scene van.

It's unclear if the suspect actually got the money he was after but police said he appeared to be lying in wait for someone at the ATM.

"It could have been one of your family members that had stopped at an ATM to buy Christmas gifts for your children, and now they're dead. This is totally unacceptable," said Maj. Richard Rand.

The gunman was wearing a unique Ecko Unlimited "Harlequin of Hate" hooded sweatshirt that says "Kill Batman" on the sleeves, and an image of the Joker on the back, as well as the "face" of the hoodie.
