Man Robs Miami Home Using A Hammer, Takes Breast Pump
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - City of Miami police have released a surveillance video of the intruder stalking a mother and her two young sons for at least an hour before a break-in.
It happened Sunday night in an area of Miami called The Roads.
Police said the 37-year-old mother was at home with her two-month old infant, two-year-old son, and mother.
The woman's husband, who was out of town during the robbery, spoke to CBS4 News, but asked not to be identified.
The husband told CBS4 his wife was pumping her breast to produce milk for her baby Sunday evening, when an intruder tried to hammer his way into the house.
The hurricane impact windows didn't shatter, so the man eventually kicked down a door.
"My wife had to run into the dining room where our two-month-old infant was in a swing (and) pick him up out of the swing," said the husband. "(She) ran down the hallway towards our two-year-old's room."
After hearing screams, the wife's mother came out of the shower, not knowing what was going on. The 66-year-old was allegedly nude when the intruder grabbed her by the hair, demanding money.
The women said they told him they didn't have any money to give him, and he allegedly began beating the 66-year-old woman.
"He punched her in the face," said the husband. "He kicked her. She's got bruises on one side. She looks like she went ten rounds in a boxing match."
City of Miami police say the intruder left, taking an iPad, a lap top and a breast pump.
Although the intruder got away, security cameras from a business behind the house caught the man, stalking the family.
"He was casing them and trying to watch and figure out a way to get in," said the business owner, Ryan Brooks. "(He) was standing and watching them for hours, because the video I have of him is an hour and a half before the incident even happened."
The husband says it will be some time before his family feels safe again, but says he's grateful no one was seriously hurt or killed.
Police said they are looking for a white man in his 30's or 40's, about 6'2 tall , with a muscular build weighing about 220 pounds. He has very short hair, with unshaven facial hair, pointy nose and a brightly colored tattoo on his shoulder or arm.
According to authorities, he was last seen wearing a light-colored New York Yankees logo shirt, shorts, and black shoes with a gold chain around his neck.
"It's more than just a robbery. He knew that they were home, so he was casing them and watching them and trying to figure out a way to get in and standing and watching them for hours," said bar owner Ryan Brooks.
Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
