Man On Bike Hospitalized After Being Struck By Car In Coral Springs

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An elderly man was rushed to the hospital after he was struck by a car in Coral Springs.

The man was riding his bike when he was hit near the Sawgrass Expressway and State Road 7.

Coral Springs Fire Rescue said the man was taken to Broward Health North with serious injuries.

This wasn't the only serious accident on South Florida's roads over the weekend.

A man died in Tamarac Saturday morning after he collided with a light pole, splitting the car in half.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, the crash severed the silver Infiniti sedan causing the front half to scatter across Eliathah Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

It happened at 5:45 a.m. along 7500 block of University Drive.  Police have not released the driver's name.

Also on Saturday, two people were taken to the hospital after their car was involved in a hit and run accident at in the 3500 block of W Sunrise Blvd in Lauderhill.

In Miami-Dade police placed one man in custody after he allegedly ran over another person with an all-terrain vehicle on Saturday.

Police arrested Terrance Frederick, 41, after he allegedly ran over a person, injured a firefighter, and tried running away.

According to police, a group of ATVs were driving together. One of the ATV drivers got into an accident at NW 133 Street and 22 Avenue. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene as well as police.

When police arrived, the people on the ATVs tried to take off since, in Florida, it is illegal to drive ATVs on the streets.

The ATV Frederick was driving would not start, but when police were going to apprehend the him, it started and he took off.

Police said Frederick then lost control and ran over the injured ATV driver being treated by fire rescue. In the process, he also hit one of the attending firefighters and later took off on foot. He was later caught.
