Man killed, woman injured in Opa-locka drive-by shooting
MIAMI - An SUV was found riddled with bullets in an Opa-locka neighborhood overnight. Inside were two people who had been shot, one of them was dead.
According to police, just after 1 a.m., they received a ShotSpotter alert at 2060 Lincoln Ave.
Arriving officers found a man and an injured woman inside a vehicle, both had been shot. The man was dead, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took the woman to the Ryder Trauma Center where she was listed in critical condition.
According to police, the man and woman, along with a child, were inside a ride-share vehicle when someone pulled up alongside and started shooting at them. That person then sped off.
A family member said the woman, who is recovering in the hospital, her boyfriend, and her son were coming back from the movies when they were shot.
The driver and the child were not injured.
A woman who lives in the area said she heard the gunfire.
"We were sleeping already, it was 1 o'clock in the morning, the shooting it just woke us up, even our dogs were just like barking and barking nonstop," she said.
The woman said she heard five gunshots.
"And we came outside and we saw a lady that was lying in the middle of the street there," she said. "It was very scary. Then the fire rescue came, a whole bunch of police officers, and they just like took her into fire rescue and they just took her away," she said.
Miami-Dade police have taken the lead on the investigation. They have not released a description of the shooter or vehicle involved.
