FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - One person was injured when a small crane collapsed in Ft. Lauderdale.
Workers scrambled when the crane toppled around 9 a.m. The portable crane was being used to restore the seawall behind the ocean front Lago Mar Resort at 1850 South Ocean Lane.
One man was trapped by the fallen 100-foot boom.
"He was just screaming. He was panicking, he was in a lot of pain and was just screaming to get it off of him," said Keith Beck.
"He was responsive, he was able to talk, he was just screaming at the top of his lungs, I think he said he wanted to live," said Paul Ceparano.
Ft. Lauderdale Fire said the injured man's foot was crushed in the accident.
Firefighters were able to free him and he was taken to Broward Health Medical Center as a level one trauma alert.
Initial word from the company the man works for is that doctors will be able to save the man's foot.
