Man hospitalized after Lauderdale Lakes shooting

Man injured in early morning shooting in Lauderdale Lakes

FORT LAUDERDALE - A man was hospitalized overnight after he was shot in Lauderdale Lakes.

The shooting happened in the 3700 block of NW 29th Street around 3 a.m. A man was hit and someone drove him to a hospital.

A car in the neighborhood was damaged when a stray bullet went through a passenger side door.

A woman who identified as the man's mother said she heard the gunfire.

"I just heard a lot of gunshots and we were just running for cover," she said. "I mean we were all sleeping and I just heard him out there and that's my son, so when I hear something like that I'm always going to run to the front. So I came to the front to help my son."

The Broward Sheriff's Office said the man's injuries were not life threatening.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting. Detectives with the department's Violent Crimes Unit are investigating
