TAMPA (CBSMiami/AP) — A man is now facing a mandatory life sentence after a jury found him guilty of murdering a University of Tampa student almost six years ago.
Prosecutors said David Earl Williams Jr. shot 21-year-old Ryan McCall during a robbery near the school as McCall and others tried to flee.
Williams told police he participated in the robbery but claimed McCall was shot by a man he only knew as "Rabbit."
The defense said the 25-year-old Williams is slow-witted and easily manipulated. They said the only evidence tying him to the shooting was his confession and said that was coerced.
