Man Faces Murder Charge In Woman's Overdose Death

NORTH MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) --  A man accused of leaving a woman in a car as she died of an overdose faced a judge on Friday in bond court.

Jose Prieto, 60, is charged with second degree murder in the death of woman who was found decomposing inside her car on February 10th.

He is being held on no bond.

According to his arrest report, Prieto and the victim were acquaintances and went to the same bars.

On February 8th, they were both at the Point Lounge in North Miami when he allegedly asked her and another group if they wanted to continue the party at his home.

Prieto's arrest warrant states, he told police that he gave the woman several baggies of cocaine which she "consumed."

Ater they partied for a few hours, Prieto realized that the victim was "messed up and in the process of overdosing," according to the report.

That's when he allegedly placed the girl in the front passenger seat of her car and drove her around for a while until he "decided to park the vehicle" near 1410 NE 157 Street and left her inside the car.

According to the report, "he covered her up with a jacket and walked away."

Prieto allegedly told police he panicked. Investigators said he did not contact police or anyone else about the girl.

Medical Examiners later  found she died of a cocaine overdose.

During an interview with investigators, Prieto said" I knew she was ODing" and "I'm guilty," according to the report.

Prieto was already in jail when police identified him in the case.
