MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A West Kendall man who shot and killed his estranged wife before turning the gun on himself has been charged in her murder.

Manuel Macias-Rodriguez, who remains at Kendall Regional Medical Center, has been formally charged with second degree murder in the death of Alina Gregoria Lomonte Carrera.

On September 10th Lomonte Carrera, a mother of two, had just pulled into the parking lot of her apartment building at SW 75th Street and 152nd Avenue after getting off of work when she found Rodriguez, 56, waiting for her.

The two had recently separated.

One of Lomonte Carrera's neighbors, Jorge Cruz, said he was awakened by the couple's loud argument around 4 a.m. He said he walked out onto his balcony and watched them argue for a few moments, then went back inside. Cruz said he then heard three gunshots "Bam, Bam, Bam."

When he went back out on the balcony he saw the couple laying on the ground. He then watched as Rodriguez lifted his arm from the pavement, with gun in hand, and shot himself in the head. Cruz called 911.

Rodriguez was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center and immediately rushed into surgery.

Cruz said one of the couple's sons told him that Rodriguez had recently learned his wife had taken a boyfriend.

The couple's two children were in the apartment they share with their mother at the time of the shooting but didn't witness it.
