Man Burned, Two Others Rescued In Deerfield Beach Fire

DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) --  A fire in a Deerfield Beach apartment complex left one man with critical injuries Saturday morning.

Just before 8:00 a.m. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to reports of heavy smoke coming from a first-floor apartment.

When they arrived, a male resident of a Tivoli Lakes townhouse was already outside with a deputy and his apartment was engulfed by flames.

Before firefighters had arrived, a  BSO deputy suffered minor injuries while trying to rescue the male resident from the blaze. The man suffered third degree burns over 30 percent of his body.

According to deputies, firefighters rescued the man's dog from inside the first-floor unit and two residents off the balcony above using a ladder.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire in 15 minutes.

Four people were displaced due to the fire. The American Red Cross is helping them with temporary housing.

An investigation is underway to find out the cause and origin of the fire.
