Man Accused Of Trying To Kidnap 18-Year Old Bonds Out Of Jail
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A man accused of trying to kidnap an 18-year old girl while at a Fort Lauderdale bus stop, is out jail.
Carl Watts, 37, bonded out of jail Saturday after he was arrested Friday on charges of false imprisonment and battery.
His arrest came as more than a dozen Crime Stoppers tips came in of people saying they recognized the man and the van he was driving in surveillance images released by deputies. The images were captured by a camera on a bus and a local gas station.
Detectives said Watts also called to turn himself in for the incident on May 1st.
Deputies said, Candace Williams was at a Shell Gas Station bus stop located at 2701 West Sunrise Boulevard. She was sitting on the bench waiting for the bus that takes her to school.
Watts allegedly approached her at the bench and tried talking to her but the Williams ignored him.
"He asked me what my name was and a whole bunch of sexual stuff," said Williams. "I was sitting there and he offered me money. I said 'no.' He tried to stuff it in my shirt. I kept pushing him away and then he grabbed me and tried to pull me to his car".
The bus arrived and she escaped, so did her attacker.
"I got on the bus and went to school and told me teachers," said Williams
Watts has a criminal history including three previous kidnapping charges. He is also on federal probation on a weapons charge.
