MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- To kick off the holiday season,  locals are invited to watch the annual lighting of the Christmas tree in downtown Miami.

Bayfront Park's tree lighting is held annually the day after Thanksgiving.

It's a time for the family to gather and watch the 50-foot Rocky Mountain Pine Tree as the lights turn on in time for the holiday season.

The lighting ceremony begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The tree will remain lit through January 6, 2016.
