Local Students Show Off Technical Skills At Expo
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- More than 1,000 local students got to show off their science and math skills at the annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Expo in Miami on Saturday morning.
The event held by Miami-Dade County Public Schools took place at Miami Dade College's North Campus.
The event showcased the explorations of elementary, middle and senior high school students throughout the community.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho stopped by the event which was also open to the public.
The competition's categories included: behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, botany, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, microbiology, zoology, earth and planetary science, environmental science, physics, astronomy, medicine and health.
Students with the best projects were awarded certificates, medals, trophies and cash prizes.
"Participation in the STEM Expo encourages students' interest in science, develops their inquiry and investigational skills, and enhances children's pride in completing research projects," said Malou C. Harrison, president of the North Campus.
