MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A local political expert says Hillary Clinton's decision to announce her candidacy for president in a YouTube video allowed her to reach a lot of voters at once.
Kevin Walsh is a political science professor at Broward College said, "I think it makes a lot of sense because she's trying to connect to obviously a generation of voters. She needs to energize the younger voters."
Clinton also tweeted the announcement and an email was sent to supporters.
"She really wants to appeal to a broad range of people using the internet obviously," said Walsh.

Clinton wasn't the only candidate, or potential candidate, who turned to social media this weekend.
Even before the Clinton video came out, Jeb Bush released a video of his own in which he said, in part, "We must do better than the Obama-Clinton foreign policy."
Walsh suspects Bush will officially announce his presidential candidacy soon.
"I would think that Jeb wouldn't wait too much longer because when we're talking about financial contributions, donors, it's important to get into the race officially," said Walsh.
It appears Marco Rubio will be doing just that on Monday. In a video posted to Twitter Sunday evening, he reminded supporters about the big announcement at Miami's Freedom Tower.
With Bush and Rubio likely candidates, Walsh predicts Florida will become a battleground in the 2016 election.
"With both Jeb and Rubio, Florida will be a greater challenge for Hillary," said Walsh, adding, "She realizes she has a challenge in Florida but her ground game is very strong in Florida she's certainly got a strong presence."
