Local Drama Students Try To Raise Money To Compete In National Competition

CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) - Forty budding actors and singers are trying to make it to the national stage this summer with a little help from the community.

The students are part of Forest Glen Middle School Drama program in Coral Springs.

The group already won district and state championships, so now they seeking to continue their reign at the National Thespian Competition in Nebraska in June but there's just one problem—it's expensive.

In order to attend, each student needs to raise $1000—bringing the grand total of the trip $40,000.

To make money, they group is targeting sweet tooth's by selling candy and doughnuts to raise the money they need.

But they are also hoping the community will pitch-in and donate whatever they can do to achieve their goal.

"I'm not worried about what they're doing. They are all working hard for something they love. Community help would be wonderful," said parent Gail Gootar.

"The kids have been working very hard. They are here every day after school. They're all passionate about the arts, like I am," said their proud drama teacher Pam Stigger.
