Lawmaker Wants 'Life Skills' Taught In High School

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - A Senate Republican has filed a bill which calls for offering high-school elective courses that focus on life skills, ranging from developing job-interview skills to managing stress.

The bill, filed by Sen. Jack Latvala from Clearwater, would direct the education commissioner to develop an elective "that addresses skills and character development not included in rigorous academic courses."

Among other issues that would be addressed in the elective would be leadership skills, organization skills, research skills and creating resumes, according to the bill.
