Lauderdale Police Bust Alleged Craigslist Robber
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Lauderhill man who reportedly tried to pull a scam using the craigslist.com website was arrested in Ft. Lauderdale.
Keith Bray, 35, reportedly posted an ad on the popular website that said the he had an iPhone for sale. He arranged to meet a man who wanted to buy the phone at a Mobile gas station on West Sunrise Boulevard on February 9th, according to police.
During the meeting Bray handed over an iPhone box and the 'buyer' asked if he could open the box to see the real goods before handed over any money.
That's when Bray reportedly pulled a gun and demanded the $400 in cash the 'buyer' had brought to pay for the phone. The 'buyer' handed over the money and Bray took off.
Ft. Lauderdale detectives investigating the robbery discovered an additional post on the craigslist site, with the same telephone number as the one that victim reportedly used to coordinate meeting at the gas station.
A detective posed as a potential customer and arranged to meet Bray at the same gas station to purchase two iPhones, according to police.
As Bray approached the undercover detective, additional detectives moved in. Bray tried to escape but was taken down by a police dog.
Bray has been charged with one count of Robbery with a Firearm, one count of Robbery without a Firearm, one count of Resisting Arrest without Violence, and one count of Carrying an Electronic Weapon or Device.
