WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — Deputies are investigating an incident in which green lasers were pointed at pilots of a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and a Delta Plane in Palm Beach County.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Therese Barbera said in a news release that the incidents occurred early Tuesday.

The helicopter was south of Pahokee, and the plane was near the Lake Worth inlet.

Barbera says green laser lights have recently been pointed into the cockpits of several planes landing at Palm Beach International Airport. The sheriff's office says misuse of laser lights is a third-degree felony. If the pilot of an aircraft is injured, the charge is increased to a second-degree felony. The charge rises to a first-degree felony in the event of a crash.
