Stabbing led to police standoff in Pembroke Pines' Grand Palms community
FORT LAUDERDALE - A stabbing led to a police standoff early Thursday morning in the Grand Palms community of Pembroke Pines.
According to police, their dispatchers received a 911 call about a man who had attacked his wife with a knife in a home in the 1400 block of Lacosta Drive. The caller said the man was locked in the home's garage.
The couple's five children were inside the home at the time of the stabbing.
Police swarmed the area and more than a dozen police officers surrounded the couple's home. The woman and her children were safely taken out of the home. The woman was taken to the hospital.
A SWAT team arrived and suited up while fire rescue personnel stood by.
Several roads were blocked off and drivers were urged to avoid the area.
The man remained barricaded in the garage until SWAT members entered the home and took him into custody. He was then taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said this was an isolated incident and there were no threats to the community.
