One man dead, another hurt after shooting in Miramar

MIRMAR - One man is dead and his cousin was hospitalized after a shooting early Tuesday, Miramar police said.

State Road 7, where the deceased man was found, is closed during the investigation as of 9 a.m.

The fatal victim was identified as Kevern Flynn, who is in his 30's, according to the family, which didn't want to talk on camera to CBS News Miami.

Kevern's pregnant wife appeared at the scene and collapsed when she got the news. She was taken away by ambulance 

Kevern Flynn's cousin is hospitalized at the Memorial Hospital Miramar in stable condition.

No information was available on any suspects, police said.

At 3:29 a.m., Miramar police were alerted to shots fired at 6190 Miramar Parkway at a Dunkin and Sunoco station. At the scene they saw shell casings but no victims.

Police then received a 911 call that a man was at Memorial Hospital Miramar in stable condition. It wasn't reported how the man came to the hospital.

A short time later, police responded to 2200 State Road 7 at Southwest 23rd Street, about a half mile north of the shooting scene, where a man was found dead in the back seat of a black car. A tarp was placed over the vehicle.

CBS News Miami's reporter Morgan Rynor, reporting across the street in Westlake, saw two men handcuffed, stripped of their jewelry and taken away by police where the body was found.

A Miramar police spokeswoman said they believe this is an isolated instance and there is no danger to the public.

Witnesses are being interviewed.

The Broward Sheriff's Office assisted because Westlake is in the agency's jurisdiction.
