Video captures fiery and fatal Lamborghini crash in NE Miami

MIAMI - It has happened again. There has been another deadly fatal accident on busy N.E. 82nd St. that leads to I-95 and that has been plagued by speeding for the past two decades.

This time, cell phone and ring camera video show some dramatic images.

A cell phone video that has been posted on Twitter shows a Lamborghini engulfed in flames after the accident happens at 1:15 a.m. in front of an apartment building at 151 N.E. 82nd St.

Ring camera video obtained from a neighbor by CBS4 also shows electrical wires crackling and popping after the car strikes a pole and a fence.

Neighbors said the loud popping sounded like a series of fireworks going off.

Miami Police said the male driver did not survive and his female passenger was rescued and transported to the Ryder Trauma Center.

The crash woke up neighbors.

One unidentified neighbor said, "The power line was down and the tree was down. I was sleeping and we got out of the house when we heard the crash. We all ran out. We were afraid the car was going to blow up."

Next-door neighbor Miriam Charles told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "I feel really really bad. I feel really bad. I heard it and I was real down. I had to run out of the house. I was scared. I didn't know what happened."

It happened less than two blocks away from another fatal accident on N.E. 82nd St. just two and half weeks ago.

Police said they believed that speed was a factor in that accident.

That's when three people were killed when police say their car plowed into a duplex at 8202 N.E. 3rd Place.

Two brothers who were living in that home were also injured and taken to the hospital.

The crash took the lives of Bayle Pricilla Bucceri, 23, Candido Barroso-Nodarse, 22 and Ernesto Enrique Carralero, 23.

In the latest accident, Miami Police Chief Manny Morales said the Lamborghini was going at a high rate of speed.

"We are cognizant," said Morales.

"Commander Kerr who is the police commander of that area is putting forth a traffic plan. And we have been looking at enhancing enforcement in that area just to keep residents and motorists safe."

"I urge anyone coming over the Causeway that turns into 82nd Street from the Beach to the city to drive the speed limit, to drive with caution and wear your seat belt and be civil to one another as they drive into the City of Miami," Morales said.

"People speed here a lot and there are accidents and this is wrong. This is not right and this is not what we want here. People shouldn't be speeding. I would like to see changes," neighbor Miriam Charles said.

Another unidentified neighbor said "Every day I see a lot of speeding. They do a lot of speeding. And I have seen a lot of accidents here."

Morales said a team member would reach out to the State Department of Transportation which has jurisdiction over that section of the street and would be responsible for making changes.

A spokeswoman for the FDOT told CBS4 that FDOT completed a traffic study in April of this year and it recommended lowering the speed limit from 40 to 35 miles per hour on the stretch of N.E. 82nd St. going from Biscayne Boulevard to N.E. 3rd place.

The study also recommended installing speed feedback signs.

The FDOT said it would be working with a contractor to implement changes over the next 12 to 18 months.
