Hemingway Days "Running Of The Bulls" Hits Streets Of Key West
KEY WEST (CBSMiami/Florida Keys News Bureau) – Dozens of white-bearded Ernest Hemingway look-alikes took part in the "Running of the Bulls" Saturday afternoon in Key West.
The event is a spoof on the Pamplona, Spain annual race and is part of the Hemingway Days festival.
The festival honors legendary American author Ernest Hemingway who lived and wrote on the island in the 1930s.
The bull run featured past winners and competitors in the annual "Papa" Hemingway Look-Alike Contest with life-size replica bulls on wheels.
The offbeat event was headquartered outside Sloppy Joe's Bar, frequented by Hemingway during his decade-long residence in Key West, with a route proceeding along part of the island's famed Duval Street.
The finalists from the 131 entrants into the event will vie for the title of "Papa" at Sloppy Joe's Bar.
Other Hemingway Days events include literary readings, a marlin tournament and a short story competition directed by author and Hemingway granddaughter Lorian Hemingway. The festival concludes Sunday.
