Kelly: Jordan Phillips is 'The Guy That's Going to Make That Draft Class'
First-round pick DeVante Parker is the expected star of the Miami Dolphins' 2015 draft, but some think second-rounder Jordan Phillips, a player Mike Mayock said "has first-round ability all over him," will define this year's class.
"There's reason to have concern about Jordan Phillips, without a doubt," the Sun Sentinel's Omar Kelly said on the Joe Rose Show on 560 WQAM. "But if it all pans out for you and this kid finally figures out how to work and becomes consistent and is a good player for you 25 snaps a game, he might be a very dominant player and you might have a very dominant defensive line. The upside is I guess worth the risk. If anybody says that it's not, they really haven't seen his film where he's just a dominant player when he wants to be. The problem is he just doesn't really want to be very often.
"There is a huge risk/reward. Yes, everybody's infatuated with DeVante Parker. Everybody loves the fact they got Jay Ajayi in the fifth round. But, in my mind, Jordan Phillips is the guy that's going to make that draft class."
On a defensive line filled with proven commodities like Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake, and Olivier Vernon, Phillips has plenty of mentors to choose from.
