Karl Expected To Strengthen, Julia Heads Toward Carolinas

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Karl is forecast to strengthen by Sunday night or Monday as Tropical Depression Julia stagnates southeast of the Carolinas.
At 7 p.m., the center of Karl's system was about 1,110 miles east of the Leeward Islands.
Karl was moving west at 15 mph. A westward to west-northwestward motion with some increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.
Maximum sustained winds were near 40 mph with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles from the center.
Julia is 185 miles east-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina.
The depression is moving toward the west at 2 mph. A turn toward the north is expected to occur later today and that motion is expected to continue into Tuesday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possible during the next 48 hours.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
