Jeb Bush Says Presidential Decision Coming In 2014
WASHINGTON (CBSMiami/AP) — The 2016 presidential election is still more than two years away, but that hasn't stopped the speculation surrounding multiple candidates, including former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
The ex-governor said Sunday that he will make a final decision on whether he'll run before the end of 2014. But, he also told the Fox News Channel that the state of politics in America is "crazy right now."
Bush says one factor in his decision will be whether he can deliver an optimistic, hopeful message without getting drawn into a political "mud fight." He says the other main factor in his decision will be whether it's OK with his family if he ran.
His views on immigration and education, specifically support for the Common Core curriculum, could be troublesome among many of the rank-and-file Republicans, mainly tea party Republicans.
On immigration, he said that those who come into the country illegally generally do so because they had no other means to provide for their family, and what they did is "not a felony."
"It's an act of love. It's an act of commitment to your family," Bush said. "I honestly think that that is a different kind of crime. There should be a price paid, but it shouldn't rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families."
The interview with Bush occurred at his father's presidential library during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of George. H. W. Bush's presidency.
If Bush enters the race, it could be a repeat by name of the 1992 presidential election when a Bush ran against a Clinton.
However, the big question is will America be ready to have a political oligarchy between the two families.
