PARKLAND (CBSMiami) – As the Jewish community observes Yom Kippur Wednesday night, there's a disturbing scene at a local synagogue.
The Broward Sheriff's Office released pictures showing the vandalism at the Chabad of Parkland.
The words "Free Palestine" were spray painted on the sign at the Chabad of Parkland, which is being renovated.
Someone also wrote the "F" word along with the number "12" on the building and on a nearby street sign, which is apparently a derogatory term for police officers.
All of this vandalism upsets Parkland's Mayor Michael Udine, especially during the high holy days.
"This is not a community that tolerates that type of hate and bigotry," Udine said. "It gave us all a shock and we were very unhappy about it."
This has happened at the Chabad of Parkland before. Back in 2008, CBS4 News covered an incident at the Chabad of Parkland where someone spray painted swastikas on the building along with references to Adolf Hitler.
No one was charged with that crime and Udine hopes that changes this time.
"This type of behavior needs to be punished and we want these people brought to justice," Udine said. "It's not right to terrorize a community especially around the high holy days."
Detectives said they do not have any suspects in this vandalism case right now.
CBS4's Carey Codd was told that detectives are hoping to get their hands on some surveillance video from the Chabad in the coming days.
