Sandbags distributed throughout South Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton

South Florida sandbag distribution sites are running out of supply

MIAMI - Several South Florida cities are offering their residents sand and sandbags Tuesday to help keep their properties dry ahead of heavy rain expected from Hurricane Milton.

Here's where you can pick up sandbags near you:

Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade County will distribute sandbags to residents on Tuesday, Oct, 8, at nine regional parks out of an abundance of caution to support residents.

All sites will stay open from 7 a.m. until bags run out. Residents can receive up to four bags per household.

Amelia Earhart Park: 401 E 65 Street
Oak Grove Park: 690 NE 159 Street
Gwen Cherry Park: 7090 NW 22 Avenue
Tropical Park: 7900 SW 40 Street
Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park and Campground: 12451 SW 184 Street
Homestead Air Reserve Park: 27401 SW 127 Avenue
Tamiami Park: 11201 SW 24 Street
Greynolds Park: 17530 W Dixie Hwy
Ives Estate Park: 20901 NE 16 Avenue

The City of Miami is distributing sandbags to residents at four parks. 

Douglas Park: 2755 SW 37 Avenue
Grapeland Park: 1550 NW 37 Avenue
Jose Marti Park Gym: 434 SW 3 Avenue
Little Haiti Park:  315 NE 62 Street  

Opa-locka will have sandbags for residents on Tuesday while supplies last. They will be handed out at the Public Works and Utilities building at 12950 NW 42 Avenue. Proof of residency is required. 

The City of Miami Beach will host another free sandbag distribution from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at two surface parking lot locations: 2100 Collins Avenue (east of Collins Park) and 225 79 Street. Sandbags will be pre-filled and there is a limit of 4 per household, while supplies last and weather permitting. Residents are required to show proof of residency via a government-issued ID or utility bill.

In Doral, sandbags will be available Tuesday, starting at 3 p.m. for self-service at a vacant lot located at 8301 NW 53 Street (between the UHealth Building and the Cordoba Rental Apartments). Access to the lot is through NW 53rd street.
Bags and shovels will be available on-site. While supplies last. 

A sandbag distribution will take place for Homestead residents on Tuesday.

Roby George Park: 201 SW 11 Avenue
Homestead Regional Park (A.K.A Homestead Sports Complex): 1601 SE 28 Avenue

Residents must provide a photo I.D. or a utility bill. There will be a limit of 5 sandbags per vehicle.

North Miami Beach has sandbags for residents at the Fleet Maintenance Building at 1965 NE 151 Street. Residents must show a valid ID, limit of 4 bags per household.

Sandbags are available to Northwest Miami-Dade residents at Amelia Earhart Park, 401 E 65 Street in Hialeah. Sandbags will be given on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Please bring identification. Please enter through the Palm Avenue Entrance.

South Miami distributed sandbags at the Public Works Yard, 4795 SW 75 Avenue, through 4 p.m.

Broward


Davie will continue to provide self-service sandbags to residents at 6591 Orange Drive beginning at 8 a.m., while supplies last. Each vehicle will only receive ten bags of sand. Proof of residency is required.

Deerfield Beach will be distributing sandbags to residents. The sandbag distribution is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until supplies are exhausted. The distribution will be held at 210 Goolsby Blvd. Residents must present a valid photo ID as proof of residency. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household.

In Fort Lauderdale, sandbags will distributed to residents until 9 p.m. or until they run out.

Floyd Hull Stadium: 2800 SW 8 Avenue
Mills Pond Park: 2201 NW 9 Avenue
Shirley Small Park: 1230 SW 34 Avenue

Pembroke Pines has sand available at the Pembroke Pines Health Park at 8300 West Cypress Drive. There's a limit of five bags and proof of Pembroke Pines residency is required.  

The City of Pompano Beach's sandbag distribution will start at 9 a.m., The sandbag distribution will be held across the street from Pompano Beach Airpark at 1660 NE 10th Street. The sandbags will be prefilled, sealed, and placed into your car. The sandbags are free for Pompano Beach residents, with a maximum of up to ten bags per household. Proof of residency is required.

Miramar will host a sandbag distribution on Tuesday.

Sunset Lakes Community Center: 2801 SW 186 Avenue
Lakeshore Park: 8501 Sherman Circle
Multi-Service Complex: 6700 Miramar Parkway.

Must provide proof of Miramar residency. Four bags per household
