Hurricane Matthew Leaves Airlines Across Florida Scrambling

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – When the weather gods roar, the airline industry shudders.
Flight schedules were scrambled due to Hurricane Matthew – with over 3,800 flights canceled nationwide.
At Miami International Airport, with the hurricane hugging the Florida coast, American Airlines canceled 861 flights through Saturday.
"They canceled all of them. We just got cancellations. They were really good about it though. They called us, canceled, rebooked us on the next flight," said Danielle Ferrall.
So they are off to Panama. But for others are not so lucky.
If you are planning to go to Jacksonville or Georgia or North Carolina, forget it.
The airports there are closed and that backs up the airlines. Some cousins flying to Greece have experienced it firsthand.
"I think that the flight that's coming to depart from here is coming from Orlando. We were told that airport was not flying out so they were trying to scramble their inventory of planes from somewhere and they were able to seat us," said Eddie Fernandez.
