Hurricane Kate Weakens To A Tropical Storm

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - What was once Hurricane Kate is now a tropical storm again.

At 11 p.m. the center of the downgraded storm was about 455 miles south of Cape Race Newfoundland.

Kate had maximum sustained winds of 70 with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 240 miles from the center.

Kate was moving to the east-northeast at near 41 mph. A slower forward speed toward the east-northeast is expected during the next couple of days.

Kate is forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone on Thursday, and only slowly weaken during the next 48 hours.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
