Fred Weakens To Tropical Storm

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – After soaking the Cape Verde Islands as a hurricane, Fred has weakened and been downgraded to a tropical storm.
As of 11 p.m, the center of the system was located about 55 miles north of Santo Antao in the Cape Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph as it moved to the northwest at 12 mph.
Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles from the center.
On the forecast track, the center of Fred is expected to move away from Cape Verde Islands through early Monday night. On Tuesday, it's expected to take a turn toward the west-northwest and continue to weaken over the next 48 hours.
Fred is expected to produce up to 6 inches over the Cape Verde Islands, with possible isolated maximum amounts of 10 inches. These rains could produce life- threatening flash flooding and mudslides.
