MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) -- More than a thousand residents will be getting their Thanksgiving turkeys for free thanks to a local foundation.

Starting at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, volunteers along with Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine and commission members will be passing out turkeys to about 1, 500 Miami Beach residents.

Each resident had received their voucher ahead of time and Wednesday they were invited to pick up their turkey at the North Beach Bandshell located at 7275 Collins Avenue.

The event is part of the organizations efforts to make sure the most in need get to have their turkey in time for Thanksgiving.

The One Miami Beach not-for-profit foundation, who held the event, was established by the Miami Beach City Commission in January of 2014.
