How Ryan Tannehill's $45 Million Guaranteed Ranks Among Recent QB Extensions
With Ryan Tannehill reportedly signing a contract extension set to pay him $45 million guaranteed, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, let's take a look around the league at other recent quarterback extensions to see where the Miami Dolphins' passer stands in regards to the only number that matters -- the guaranteed dollars.
2014
Colin Kaepernick -- $61 million
Jay Cutler -- $54 million
2013
Matt Ryan -- $59 million
Tony Romo -- $55 million
Aaron Rodgers -- $54 million
Joe Flacco -- $52 million
Matt Stafford -- $41.5 million
Andy Dalton -- $25 million
Tannehill's guaranteed dollars rank seventh over the last two years of QB extensions, above Stafford and Dalton. If you're curious about what exactly "guaranteed" means in relation to his contract struture (it's quite complicated), check out Jason La Canfora's piece here.
Amazingly, in a draft class featuring Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson (and Robert Griffin), Tannehill is the first to receive a long-term extension, a deal potentially worth $96 million over six seasons.
One thing is clear -- The Dolphins are all-in on Tannehill.
