DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) – Police in Broward County are searching for an armed robber that threatened two young children during a home invasion.

The incident took place in Deerfield Beach late last Friday night.

According to authorities, at approximately 11:30 p.m. a family that included a husband, wife and two young children were asleep in their home on the 500 block of 44th Street.

The husband, Andres Pocoada, woke up and went to the kitchen when he heard a strange sound outside.

Pocoada said there have been car break-ins recently in his Deerfield Beach apartment complex.

Pocoada said he peeked his head out of his apartment door when he heard a noise outside.

Suddenly, he was in a tug of war over the door and a gunman forced his way inside.

"When he came in the gun was already at my forehead," Pacoada said in Spanish.

Pocoada said the man hit him in the head with a gun and punched him, leaving him with a cut lip and small wounds on his face.

He said the injuries caused him to black out. However, he said the man spoke forcefully about what he wanted.

"I want money, man. I want money," Pacoada recalled him saying.

But Pocoada told the man he didn't have much money.

The scared father said the bad guy dragged him to the bedroom where his wife and two young kids were.

"He said, 'Ok, if you're not gonna give me money, I'm gonna kill your kids,'" he said.

Pocoada tried to change the man's focus and get the man's attention back to himself but he said he pointed the gun at his children threatening them.

"At the moment that I saw he put the gun towards my kids, especially my daughter, because she's a very nervous child, I said, 'He's gonna do away with them,'" he said.

The man got away with a small amount of cash and an iPhone.

A police sketch was released based on the victims description of the thief.

They describe him as a tall adult male with a goatee and dark complexion. The armed robber was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and long black pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $3000.
