Broward County police chase ends in West Park; 3 teens in custody

West Park residents react to police chase through their neighborhood

WEST PARK — Three minors were arrested on Friday afternoon after leading police on a high-speed chase through Broward County.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of a stolen vehicle out of Cape Coral. BSO's Aviation Unit then found the vehicle — a silver sedan — in Central Broward.

BSO's Aviation Unit continued monitoring the car as it traveled through several jurisdictions in the county

Chopper 4 was over the scene in Pembroke Park, where video showed the car driving west on Pembroke Road after fleeing pursuing police vehicles from Interstate 95.

The vehicle then drove into a residential area. At this point in the chase, a person appeared to have popped out of the rear driver window briefly before returning inside the vehicle.

Shortly after, a BSO K9 deputy vehicle performed a pit maneuver, attempting to slow down the vehicle. However, the car continued, only hitting what appeared to be a mailbox before resuming driving.

Following that, other law enforcement caught up to the sedan and black vehicle and cornered the sedan after another pit maneuver was performed, where three people — a man and two women — exited the vehicle as officers stopped them and took them into custody in a grassy off-shoulder on Southwest 25th Street and 38th Avenue in West Park. Fortunately, no one was injured during the chase.

On Saturday morning, BSO identified the three arrested as two 16-year-olds and one 14-year-old. CBS News Miami has chosen not to identify the arrestees at this time since they are underage. All three are facing multiple charges, including fleeing and evading law enforcement and grand theft auto.

As police were arresting the suspects, some homeowners came outside to see what was going on in their neighborhood but were directed by officers to step away from the scene.

Police are still investigating the incident.
